This route is a trip to the past, in which you will discover prehistoric artistic manifestations.
We will start this tour at 08:00 am. Pick up from the hotel and transfer to the north side of the Salinas y Aguada Blanca National Reserve. Along the way we will observe vicuñas, llamas and alpacas. We will make a stop to drink coca tea at the Pampa Cañahuas viewpoint located at 4000 meters above sea level. From this point we will observe the north face of the Misti, Chachani and Picchu Picchu volcanoes.
Sumbay is located at 4137 meter and used to be an important train station between Arequipa and Puno, but nowadays is abandoned, so will see the old trains and stone houses of the last families which used to live there, now this lonely village has a nostalgic spirit that fits perfectly with the mountains around it. Very near to the Sumbay village, 10 minutes walk there is a stream, and just next to is the cave that was the shelter of men who eight thousand years ago wanted to express their thoughts, experiences and feelings in the rock. Nowadays you will see paintings that show hunting, and domestication of South American camelids, you will also see figures of rheas (South American ostrich), pumas (mountain lion), and deers.
We will leave Sumbay and its mystical ancestral legacy to continue towards Puruña, where we will take a break for lunch (picnic). After lunch in the mountains we will walk for about an hour observing and taking pictures of this very special place made up of steep white rocks of volcanic origin, then we will continue the trip back to Arequipa. We will be back in Arequipa around 4:00 pm.
