Imata - The Mysterious Stone Forest

At 8:00 am, we will depart from Arequipa to the National Reserve Salinas y Aguada Blanca, on the road will see south American camelids at their natural environment, will observe vicuñas, which are at 4000m, in Pampa Cañahuas, this area of the Reserve is located behind Misti volcano, this place also represents a beautiful mountain landscape, where will observe Misti, Chachani, and Picchu Picchu volcanoes.

After two hour drive will arrive to the stone forest, located at 4350 meter, will hike and discover the magic of this forest, the guide will explain about the formation of the stones, and you will observe that the whole forest comes to life, and rocks became into many kind of animals, or at less it is what can be perceived.

Imata is the natural habitat of some medicinal plants of the Andes, such as ichu, yareta, and chachacoma, this last one is used to remove the altitude sickness by simply rubbing it and feeling its scent. In addition to these amazing mother earth's medicines, you will also observe groups of alpacas and llamas that complete this wonderful Andean canvas called Imata.

We will leave this spectacular abstract stone forest and return to Arequipa around 4:00 pm.

  • El Misterioso Bosque de Piedra de Imata

    Saldremos de Arequipa a las 8:00 am, y tomaremos la carretera hacia Puno, y al llegar a la Reserva Nacional de Salinas y Aguada Blanca observaremos camélidos sudamericanos silvestres, las vicuñas, esto finos ejemplares de los Andes, se encuentra muy cerca de la carretera en la zona de Pampa Cañahuas, a 4000 metros, y desde este punto observaremos también las espaldas de los volcanes Misti, Chachani, y Picchu Picchu.

    Tras dos horas de viaje llegaremos al bosque de piedra, ubicado a 4350 metros, caminaremos y descubriremos la magia de este bosque, el guía explicará sobre la formación de estas singulares rocas, y usted observará cómo el bosque entero va cobrando vida y aparecen las formas de animales de distintos tipos.

    Imata es el hábitat natural de algunas plantas medicinales de los Andes, como ichu, yareta, y chachacoma, esta última se utiliza para combatir el mal de altura, simplemente frotándolo y sintiendo su olor. Además de estas sorprendentes medicinas de la madre tierra, también observará grupos de alpacas y llamas que completan este maravilloso lienzo andino llamado Imata.

    Dejaremos este espectacular bosque de piedras abstractas y regresaremos a Arequipa alrededor de las 4:00 pm.
